PDO Threads at AIYANA We are excited to have a new offering at AIYANA� PDO Threads, a non-surgical lifting approach that also stimulates collagen. What exactly is PDO and how do these little threads give lift and smooth lines? Let�s dive into the details. PDO (Polydioxanone) �PDO has been around since the 90s. It was first introduced in surgery, particularly cardiothoracic surgery as an absorbable suture. It is still used today as the absorbable sutures we are familiar with. Barb Sutures were first described in the 60s and utilized for suturing wounds without having to tie knots. They were then used for aesthetic procedures in 1999.� How Are Threads Used Today PDO threads are used to delicately reposition the skin and stimulate new collagen. The threads are loaded with either a sharp needle or blunt cannula. Determining which to use will be assessed during your medical consult. The threads are positioned under the skin, and the foreign body of the thread results in a new formation of collagen and improved skin texture. Results The desired outcome is to reposition the tissue to bring back the natural �V-shape� of the face, a more youthful appearance. The PDO thread is completely dissolved within 4-6 months and the results will last 9-12 months with new collagen. There are no incisions, no downtime and immediate results. It can lift and smooth lines in the face/body. How should I prepare for my PDO thread appointment? Please avoid Aspirin and vitamin E for 10 days. Avoid NSAIDS, like ibuprofen and alleve for 7 days. Avoid alcohol for 3 days prior to procedure. Please arrive to your appointment with a �clean face,� avoid applying makeup. What are the contraindications for PDO threads? Contraindications include: Immune system disease, pregnancy, coagulation diseases, cutaneous neurofibromatosis, various acute infectious disease (ie. Influenza), inflammation of the skin in areas to be treated, a non-absorbable implant (silicone) in the zone of thread insertion, Oncology (chemotherapy), tendency toward keloid scarring, bleeding disorders and some disease of the blood, neurotic psychological disorders, and unrealistic expectations. When will I see results? Effects with PDO threads should be noticeable immediately after treatment. However, maximum effect will occur in 4-6 weeks. Are there any side effects? Bruising and swelling is normal and expected. If bruising is visible you can take oral Arnica or apply topical ALATIN INhance to areas that are discolored. Asymmetry and irregularity of the tissue are common and will typically resolve in 1-2 weeks. Pain at the insertion points is normal and may last several days after treatment. Please consult your provider for any pain beyond 2 weeks. Should I avoid anything after my treatment? Excessive movement or animation of the area treated for 2 weeks. Massage or manipulation of the tissue for 2 weeks. Aesthetic treatment including RF, IPL, Laser or micronedling for 4 weeks. Strenuous exercise for 1 week after facial treatments and 2 weeks after body treatments. No deep squats for 1 month if you had any threads injected into the buttocks area. Steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, or any water source that could be unclean or excessive in temperature for 2 weeks. Taking ibuprofen for 2 weeks. Acetaminophen may be taken instead, if needed. When should I call my provider with symptoms? If any of the threads are exposed or start to extrude. If you develop reddened, har, painful nodule over one or more of the threads. If you experience increased redness, swelling, or pain at the insertion site. Irregularity or visible ridges (buckling) of threads (2 weeks post-treatment). Skincare Application 101 When it comes to skincare, buying the right products is only half of the battle. Learning how to apply the products is just as important. Every consult at AIYANA includes information about skincare because we believe the best anti-aging regimen starts with skincare. When we talk about our favorite products, ALASTIN and iS CLINICAL are the best skincare products on the market. There are many reasons for this, but to hear more about the details visit our Skin Care�page. Now let’s get into the skincare application details. Skincare Application Cleanser When you are applying your skincare, it is important to do so in a certain order. This order is always laid out thinnest to thickest, after cleanser. The cleanser is the first product you will use on your skin to help rid it of any impurities. The cleanser is important to help with clearing out the skin and pores. It will remove all makeup and any environmental factors that are out there. The best cleanser is the ALASTIN Gentle Cleanser. It is gentle and foaming. It also removes eye makeup. Toner/Serums When you apply your products, start with the product that is the thinnest when you look at it on your hands. Examples include serums and toners. They are as thin as water and should be applied immediately after your cleanser. This insures maximum absorption and gives the product the ability to create results the way it was intended. When you apply serums, ensure that you do not place the dropper on your skin as this may cause bacterial contamination to your product. Instead, drop the serum on your fingertips and apply from there. This also saves a lot of products in the long run. The best serum is our iS CLINICAL Serums. Anti-aging Creams/Eye Creams The next step is the anti-aging creams and eye creams. These should be applied after the serums as they are the next in line in regards to thickness. When applying creams, pump the product into fingertips and dab onto skin in multiple areas. Then return to those areas and rub the cream in. When applying around the eyes, ensure you go under the eyebrows to the upper lid as well as under the eyes. The product is meant for the orbital region. Of course, do not apply product into eyeball. The best eye cream is our ALASTIN Restorative Eye Complex. Helps with dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles and laxity around the eye. Retinol Retinols are the classic anti-aging product and are used to help increase cellular turnover and exfoliation. Retinols can only be used in the evening and it is advised to titrate up the daily usage. Retinols can be drying and cause redness, however, the best retinol is ALASTIN Renewing Retinol which has been shown to be gentle on the skin. Therefore, most of our patients can use this retinol every night. Moisturizer Using a moisturizer is good for every patient, even those with oily skin. But, this comes with a caveat. Using a medical-grade moisturizer is one that provides more results than oil. The best moisturizer is ALASTIN Ultra Nourishing Moisturizer because it isn’t greasy like the typical moisturizer and it has its Tri-Hex Technology that clears out old collagen and elastin and then restores new collagen and elastin. It is not going to clog your pores and it is going to go on silky smooth, with no residue. SPF We can’t speak more about SPF and sunscreen. If there was only one anti-aging cream you were going to use, SPF would be the recommended on. It protects your skin from further damage.
